Local Government Minister, Desmond McKenzie, has sought to clarify comments he made on the weekend about the management of the National Solid Waste Management Authority, NSWMA.

This as he prepares to name a new board to lead the waste management agency.

Speaking at a meeting of the JLP’s Area Council One on Sunday, Minister McKenzie said he was disturbed by some of the things he has found at the NSWMA over the past few days.

But in a statement today, Minister McKenzie says his comments were in no way intended to ascribe poor management to any member of the NSWMA board.

He says after meetings with stakeholders and staff he is satisfied that the Board implemented a proper corporate governance framework and took steps to improve accountability and operations.

Minister Mckenzie says when the new board is named this weekend it will contain a measure of continuity through the retention of key members.
