The country’s agriculture sector is suffering because of the misplaced priorities of the portfolio Ministry.

That’s according to the Opposition Spokesman on Agriculture, JC Hutchinson.

Mr. Hutchinson says the effects of the drought, which are set to affect growth in the sector, could have been mitigated with better planning from the Agriculture Ministry.

Mr. Hutchinson says the resources given to the Agro Parks, would’ve been better allocated, if they were given to farmers to help prepare for the drought.

Mr. Hutchinson says farmers are complaining that Extension Officers from the Rural Agricultural Development Authority, RADA, have been missing in action in some parishes.

He says agricultural output has increased in the past, during periods of drought.
