President of the Association of Local Government Authorities of Jamaica, AGAJ, Winston Maragh, says there are mixed reactions among its members on the government’s plans to again postpone the Local Government Elections.

ALGAJ is a group of all Councillors and Mayors across the island.

Mr Maragh says several of the Councillors including some from the Opposition People’s National Party, welcome the postponement as they would like to complete an eight year term and become entitled to pension.

He says the matter is to be added to the agenda for ALGAJ’s executive meeting in a few days.

In the meantime, Spanish Town Mayor, the PNP’s Norman Scott, says the government’s decision to again postpone the local polls is unacceptable.

He’s calling on Local Government Minister Desmond McKenzie to prioritise local government administration.
