The Ministry of Education and Youth is inviting the public to review and comment on the National School Nutrition Policy, which was tabled in the House as a Green Paper earlier this month.

The National School Nutrition Policy is a part of a national response to improving the nutritional status of children.

The policy provides the framework for attaining standardisation and regularisation of nutrition offerings at schools, and will target students between 3 and 18 years.

Additionally, the policy is trying to reduce the current rates of obesity by increasing physical activity and balanced eating among the student population by 2030.

The Global School-based Student Health Survey 2017 Report on students in Jamaica, revealed that 23.3% of students, aged 13-17 years were overweight and 9.2% were obese.
