The total number of monkeypox cases recorded in Jamaica has increased to 12.

That’s according to the latest update from the Ministry of Health and Wellness.

The new total follows the confirmation of 5 additional cases.

Of the 12 confirmed cases on the island, 5 have been in Kingston and St. Andrew, 2 in Clarendon, 2 in St. Elizabeth, 2 in St. James, while a single case has been confirmed in Manchester.

3 persons have since recovered from the virus. 8 active cases remain on the island.

The Ministry is also investigating one death, which is suspected to be linked to monkeypox.

23 Jamaicans remain in home quarantine.

11 of the 12 confirmed cases so far have been men.
