The Ministry of Justice, through the Legal Aid Council, has assigned a lawyer to the mother who’s at the center of the investigation into the beating of her 4-year-old daughter.

The Legal Aid Council is the agency, which is mandated to provide legal services to members of the public who’ve been charged with various offences.

It says Duty Counsel are drawn from an approved list compiled by the Legal Aid Council.

Between April and September 2017, a total of 1,330 Duty Counsel Matters have been undertaken while the Council has completed 1,182 matters in the Parish Courts.

The Legal Aid Council has also completed 242 matters in the High Court Division of the Gun Court, 226 matters in the Circuit Court, and 7 cases in the Court of Appeal.
