In a humorous moment, West St. Mary MP, Robert Montague sought to elevate, Central Westmoreland MP, George Wright, to the position of Opposition Leader.

It followed a walkout by the PNP caucus in protest of the further delay of Local Government polls.

This left Mr. Wright the sole member of the opposition in the chambers.

Wright sat with the Opposition Members since resigning from the Jamaica Labour Party, in 2021.

His resignation followed allegations of being caught on video physically assaulting a woman.

The Police dropped the investigation due to insufficient evidence.

The MP, to date, has not confirmed nor denied the allegations.

Speaker of the House, Marisa Dalrymple-Philibert, dismissed Mr. Montague’s motions as an early April Fools’ joke.
