Nurse Administrator at the Committee for the Upliftment of the Mentally Ill, CUMI, Joy Crooks, says the number of people who are homeless due to poverty has been increasing.
She was reacting to a Nationwide News Network’s documentary on the plight of the homeless on the streets of Jamaica.
The documentary highlights the stories of several homeless persons in Kingston & Montego Bay.
It brings awareness to several social issues such as drug addiction and sexual assault, and allows the homeless to give a first hand account of their experiences.
She says there’s need for more social services to assist persons living on the street.

In the meantime, Executive Director for Food For the Poor, Kivette Silvera, is endorsing the calls for more social support for those living on the streets.
