The Police are maintaining a strong presence in the community of Mountain View in St. Andrew, following an intense gun battle between thugs and the security forces this morning.

Two men are dead, five others are in custody and four guns have been seized following the exchange of gunfire in the Jacques Road Area of the community.

The Police say a 30-minute gunfight ensued shortly before 2-this morning after they were challenged by a group of armed men.

Commanding Officer for the East Kingston Police, Arthur Brown says the Police are still on the ground.

Superintendent Brown says speculation that the Police operation was sparked by a dispute over water, is untrue and has no basis.

He says the operation was part of the recently launched ‘Get the Guns Campaign’.

Superintendent Brown says several gunmen remain at large.
