The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management, ODPEM, has now activated the National Emergency Operation Centre at level 1.

Minister of Local Government Minister, Desmond McKenzie, says disaster committees have been activated in preparation for the possible impact of Hurricane Matthew on the island.

He says the ODPEM and parish councils will be provided with necessary supplies for distribution if required.

The National Disaster Committee is also expected to be activated by later today.

Minister Mckenzie says he’s comfortable with the country’s level of preparedness.

The Minister noted that parish councils have also been advised that funds from the Parochial Revenue Fund can be utilized to help with social security services.

He’s imploring citizens to heed all warnings related to the Hurricane.
