National Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang says he has directed the ministry’s legal team to review existing legislation to determine whether information about convicted sex offenders can be shared more broadly.

The law currently allows for select institutions to be advised of details about convicted offenders, upon request.

These institutions include schools.

But in a statement on Friday morning, Dr Chang says a review has become necessary amid public calls for the list of stakeholders with access to the information to be widened.

The national security minister says the objective is to ensure that the Jamaican public has the requisite information to allow them to take safety precautions.
