A new champion will be crowned in the 2026 McKay Security St. Thomas Under-17 Competition after Danvers Pen and York United booked their places in Sunday’s final with impressive semi-final victories at the XPress Sports Complex.
Defending champions Golden Grove saw their title defence come to a crushing end as Danvers Pen produced a dominant second-half display to secure a 5-1 victory.
Golden Grove made the perfect start when D’Andre Beckford found the back of the net in the opening minute, raising hopes of another final appearance.
However, Danvers Pen responded in emphatic fashion, scoring five unanswered goals to turn the contest on its head.
Jayquan Mitchell restored parity in the 39th minute before Denton Brown gave Danvers Pen the lead just four minutes later, sending his team into the halftime break with a 2-1 advantage.
Danvers Pen maintained their momentum after the restart as Joshua McClune extended the lead in the 54th minute.
Xavier Mitchell added a fourth in the 72nd minute before Jaheel Gordon completed the rout with an 84th-minute strike.
The five-goal barrage matched the total number of goals Golden Grove had conceded throughout the entire preliminary round, underlining the magnitude of Danvers Pen’s performance.
The second semi-final provided even more drama as York United staged a remarkable comeback to defeat Heartease United 2-1 after extra time.
Heartease appeared destined for a place in the final after Justin Case broke the deadlock in the 41st minute and his side defended resolutely for much of the contest.
But York United refused to surrender.
Deep into stoppage time, Marvin Morgan emerged as the hero, scoring in time added on to force extra time and stun Heartease.
Morgan completed the turnaround in the 101st minute, calmly netting the decisive goal to send York United into the championship match.
