Jamaica quarter-miler, Nikisha Pryce, says she surprised herself with the record breaking performance at the NCAA National Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, on the Weekend.

The former Vere Tech star posted 48.89 seconds to win the women’s 400-metres final, breaking Lorraine Fenton’s 22 year old national record of 49.30.

The time is also a collegiate record and was the world lead before Sydney McClaughlin replaced it at the New York Grand Prix a day later.

Pryce’s achievement helped the University of Arkansas to win the national women’s title.

Lyston, who is a sophomore at Louisiana State Univerisity in the United States, finished second in her first year contesting the 100-metres for the Tigers in 10.82 seconds.

She also gives a message to everyone supporting her on the journey.
