Justice Minister, Delroy Chuck, says giving prosecutors the right to appeal under certain circumstances will not affect double jeopardy.

Minister Chuck made the statement speaking recently with Nationwide News.

Double Jeopardy is the principle that someone cannot be charged for the same crime twice.

Some attorney’s say that a planned move by the government to provide prosecutors with the right to appeal could violate that principle.

However, Minister Chuck says he feels prosecutors having this ability is a sound principle.

He’s also making it clear that the legislation that will be forthcoming next year did not originate under his tenure as Justice Minister.
