The National Environment and Planning Agency is warning members of the public not to buy protected species.
NEPA says persons should resist the temptation to buy certain animals, which fall in the protected category, as gifts for the holiday season.
Protected animals include the Yellow-billed Parrot, the Black-billed Parrot, the Crested Quail Dove, the Jamaican Parakeet, the American Crocodile and the Jamaican Boa or yellow snake.
Nepa is reminding the public, that its an offence under the Wild Life Protection Act to have any protected animal in their possession.
Its also an offence for persons to hunt, kill, capture or willfully molest any protected animals or protected birds.
Persons found guilty of the offences may be fined a maximum of 1-hundred-thousand dollars or one year imprisonment.
