The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Agriculture says there’s no shortage of sugar on the local market.
However, it says it’s noticed a shortfall in one pound packages of the commodity.
Nationwide News heard complaints from one retailer last week who complained about the availability of 500-gram packages of sugar.
The Ministry says the island’s largest marketer of sugar, Jamaica Cane Product Sales, has indicated that the shortfall in the 500gram sugar packages resulted from a sharp increase in demand for that size recently.
It says steps are being taken to meet the increased demand.
The Ministry says it expects the shortfall in the 500-gram packages to be addressed within two weeks.
