Prime Minister Andrew Holness says since the declaration of the Zone of Special Operations, ZOSO, in Norwood, St. James, there have been no murders or shootings reported in the community.
He provided the update in the House of Representatives Tuesday afternoon.
The ZOSO was declared on the recommendation of the security chiefs. Six gangs are said to be operating in Norwood.
The Prime Minister says the ZOSO has already shown signs of curtailing criminality in the area.
Prime Minister Holness says the social intervention phase of the ZOSO will place greater emphasis on targeting children and young adults.
The ZOSO will also place greater focus on parenting seminars in the area.
The Prime Minister says residents have welcomed the intervention.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister is seeking to reassure residents in other communities that the government will also treat seriously with crime in those areas.
There have been calls from PNP caretaker for Central Kingston, Imani Duncan Price, for the declaration of ZOSO in the area following multiple shootings in the last few weeks.
The Prime Minister says the government is not just relying on ZOSO as a response to the country’s crime problems.
