The Tourism Ministry is raising concerns over flight cancellations it says are numbering two per day for the past few weeks.

Senior Advisor and Strategist in the Tourism Ministry, Delano Seivwright, says the recent flight cancellations are due to the spread of the Omicron variant globally, and poor weather conditions.

He notes most of the cancellations are from the US with some also from Canada.

Mr Seivwright says another issue lies in the disruption caused to airlines when staff members test positive for the virus and must take leave from work until they get clearance to return.

But he says the traditionally active winter tourism season continues to hold.

He’s also commending stakeholders in the sector, who have heeded the government’s urgings to get vaccinated.

Mr Seivwright says overseas clients are also demanding local hotel staff be vaccinated.
