The Opposition People’s National Party says it’s disappointed at the government’s handling of changes to the new Road Traffic Act.

Opposition Leader, Mark Golding, says despite the announcements made by the Transport Minister, the amendments are not enough to address the growing concerns of taxi operators.

The Opposition Leader says the Bill which he had hoped to introduce in Parliament, would have been an effective tool in handling the amendments relating to the new Road Traffic Act.

Mr Golding was speaking during a media briefing following Tuesday’s sitting of the House of Representatives.

The Government has announced that it’s amending the controversial child restraint regulations under the new Road Traffic Act in response to strong public criticism.

Transport Minister, Audley Shaw, told Tuesday’s sitting of the Lower House that the amendment will allow small children to be restrained by an adult.

Minister Shaw says other amendments to the Act will be announced before the end of the week.
