Opposition Spokesman on National Security, Fitz Jackson, says the newly appointed board of the Firearm Licensing Authority, FLA, needs to work quickly to reduce the backlog of items.
He says he has no doubt about the new board’s integrity under Retired Major General Antony Anderson.
He says new regulations were put in place in the absence of a board that has caused issues for agencies dependent on the FLA.
Mr. Jackson says the board needs to work to rebuild the confidence lost by Jamaicans in the FLA.
The new FLA board was brought in after the previous one resigned amid allegations that the FLA gave licenses to people of questionable character.
The matter is under investigation by the Major Organized Crime and Anti Corruption Agency, MOCA.
