The Holness administration will issue 2,500 water tanks to farmers over the next 12 months in an effort to combat the effects of the ongoing drought.

Agriculture Minister, Floyd Green, made the announcement in his contribution to the 2024 Sectoral Debate earlier this week.

The minister says the government is moving to put in place the necessary measures to capitalise on rainfall when it does come.

Farmers across the island have been hard hit by the drought.

President of the Jamaica Agricultural Society, JAS, Lenworth Fulton, has warned consumers that the lingering drought will result in price increases, particularly for vegetables.

Minister Green says the government is moving to ensure the island’s farmers are better able to withstand the effects of the drought.
