Today’s sitting of the Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee, PAC, was adjourned after only ten minutes.

This was triggered by the absence of key Ministry of Labour personnel required to answer questions regarding issues raised by Auditor General, Pamela Munroe Ellis.

PAC Chairman, Julian Robinson, told the committee that without the presence of the Chair of the Ministry’s Internal Audit Committee and the substantive matters could not be dealt with.

Last week, the PAC summoned the Labour Ministry following revelations in the 2020 Auditor General’s Department annual report.

The report revealed a breakdown of controls in the ministry, exposing billions of dollars to loss or misuse.

The PAC Chairman says the two officials of the Ministry must give account for failing to respond to issues raised during an internal audit.
