Noted pan-Africanist and businesswoman, Minion Phillips, has died.

She was a restaurateur and championed the cause of pan-Africanism for several decades and was affectionately called Sister Minnie. She died on Monday at the Tony Thwaites Wing of the University Hospital of the West Indies. She passed away several days after she was admitted to hospital and placed on life support.

Mrs. Phillips is the ex-wife of PNP President and Opposition Leader, Dr. Peter Phillips.She’s the mother of four of Dr. Phillips’s children – including North West Manchester MP, Mikhael Phillips, who was elevated to the post of PNP Vice President a day before her death.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness paid tribute to Mrs. Phillips in the House of Representatives this afternoon and sent his condolences to Mikhael and the Phillips family.
