A senior Cabinet Minister is apologizing to the country for the disaster created by the fire at the Riverton City Dump.

The apology is coming from Energy Minister, Phillip Paulwell.

It comes in the wake of a statement from the Health Ministry that record levels of the cancer causing substance Benzene were released into the atmosphere by the fire at the dump.

Phillip Paulwell is MP for East Kingston and Port Royal, Leader of Government Business in the House of Representatives and also the country’s Energy Minister.

Speaking to our news center at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel this morning, Minister Paulwell is saying sorry on behalf of the Simpson Miller-cabinet.

Minister Paulwell says the government is having serious discussions about converting the waste at the dump into energy.

According to the Minister, the government is evaluating some strong proposals regarding the waste to energy potential of the dump.
