The Petroleum Workers Association, PWA, has given Petrojam 72 hours notice of industrial action.

Workers are restive over the pace of negotiations concerning wage and fringe benefits, which began last year.

The Ministry of Labour and Social Security has scheduled an Emergency Meeting for 2 this afternoon, in hopes of brokering an agreement between the union and the state-owned oil refinery.

Representatives from Petrojam and the PWA are expected to attend.

The PWA is an affiliate of the Union of Clerical, Administrative and Supervisory Employees, UCASE.

President of UCASE, Vincent Morrison, says the union does not believe the company is serious about the negotiations.
