Opposition Leader and Member of Parliament for East Central St Andrew, Dr Peter Phillips says the government must respond immediately to the water crisis affecting certain communities.

In a statement this afternoon, Dr. Phillips says the ongoing crisis has been plaguing several communities in his constituency and other areas.

He says this has intensified over the past weeks, with some communities going without water for days.

He says residents have been experiencing severe water shortage from the onset of drought.

Dr. Phillips says this is coupled with frequent lock-offs, owing to broken mains from the ongoing mismanaged road work.

The Opposition Leader says several occasions during the last school year, students and others had to be sent home as the water crisis hit hard.

He argues that as the country is entering the new school year there’s been a resurgence of this crisis in his constituency.

Dr. Phillips says with the Dengue outbreak and other mosquito-borne diseases on the rise, every effort must be made to address the ongoing crisis.

He says he will continue to make representation to the National Water Commission on behalf of the people until this crisis is addressed.
