Opposition Spokesman on Transport, Mikael Phillips, is welcoming the announcement that problematic aspects of the new Road Traffic Act and regulations are to be amended.

But he says the government could have avoided public backlash had they listened to recommendations made by the Opposition.

Mr Phillips says a properly executed public education campaign should have preceded the introduction of the new law on February 1.
