Member of Parliament for East Central St. Andrew, Dr. Peter Phillips says when PNP President Portia Simpson Miller decides to step down, only then will he offer himself for the post.
Dr. Philips, who has twice unsuccessfully challenged Mrs. Simpson Miller for leadership of the party, says she deserves respect for her contribution to the nation.
He’s warning those who attempt to assassinate her character that they are wrongfully putting their ambition above what is best for the Party.
In response to the scandal rocking the party, Dr. Phillips is calling on the government to quickly pass the legislation governing the financing of political campaigns.
Dr. Phillips says he recognises the need for change within the PNP toward greater transparency, but feels this must be done in a structured way.
