Prime Minister Andrew Holness is defending the need to push Jamaica towards greater digitisation in an effort to shore up the country’s security.
Mr. Holness says in order for the nation to survive in a transforming world there’s a need to embrace technology.
Mr. Holness was speaking Friday at the NIDS symbolic contract signing for the digitisation of records of the Registrar General’s Department.
It will see over a century’s worth of paper based public records made digitally accessible as the first step towards the creation of a National Identification System. The process will be undertaken by Fujitsu Caribbean Limited.
The prime minister argues that this will open up several avenues of additional services that can be offered to Jamaicans.
Mr. Holness is urging the country not to be resistant to change.
