Prime Minister Andrew Holness is expressing disappointment that the country is facing an environmental threat so close to its Independence celebrations.

He’s reacting to the spilling of effluent from the Windalco bauxite plant into the Rio Cobre just a few days ago.

Mr. Holness says the National Environment and Planning Agency, will be more aggressive and forward-leaning in their surveillance, prosecution and protection of the country’s natural assets.

The prime minister also expressed his administration’s commitment to protecting the environment.
