Prime Minister Andrew Holness says legislation will soon be coming requiring households to properly separate and sort their solid waste.
The Prime Minister made the announcement at a handing-over ceremony of 50 compactor trucks to the National Solid Waste Management Authority.
Mr. Holness notes that while the country works toward improving its efficiency in managing waste, there’s still a need for Jamaicans to practice appropriate waste disposal.
The Prime Minister pointed to the Japanese as a good model to emulate in terms of a culture of responsible waste management.

Meanwhile, Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke says another 50 compactor trucks have been budgeted for in the next fiscal year.
The Finance Minister notes that the hard won fiscal gains made by the country has allowed for a much needed increase in capital expenditure.
