Prominent security consultant and former Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mark Shields, says he’s seen intelligence which supports Prime Minister, Andrew Holness’ declaration that there are some Police who are working on behalf of dons.

Mr. Shields says he’s encouraged that the leadership of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, JCF, appears to be moving to address the problem.

Abka Fitz-Henley reports.

This declaration by Prime Minister Holness at the Police Federation conference in Ocho Rios, St. Ann created an audible stir among the rank and file members of the Constabulary in the audience.

Mark Shields who has served as Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of crime in Jamaica says he’s seen intelligence which supports the Prime Minister’s comment.

Mr. Shields says he agrees with the Prime Minister that there are many professional and dedicated members of the JCF who operate with integrity.

But, he says there are also too many members of the constabulary who are closely connected to the underworld.

Mr. Shields says he’s heartened that the leadership of the JCF appears to be moving to address the problem of corrupt police personnel.
