Prime Minister Andrew Holness says the National Housing Trust has a duty to all its contributors, as he weighs in on the controversy surrounding the Ruthven Towers Development in New Kingston.

Mr. Holness says it’s unfair to expect the Trust not to participate in all brackets of housing construction.

The prime minister was making his address this morning at the Low Cost Housing Design Competition Awards Ceremony.

The Ruthven Towers raised eyebrows with an individual unit cost over $20 million for a staring price, well out of the income range of many Jamaicans.

However, Mr. Holness noted that there’re still thousands of housing developments across the country which are targeted for more modest earners.

The prime minister also noted that the government is facing a severe shortage of land in the corporate area for mass housing solutions which has an impact on price.
