PNP Junior Spokesperson on Local Government Waynette Strachan is calling for swift government action to aid flood-affected communities.

However, she’s cautioning the Holness administration against what the PNP sees as political cherry-picking of communities to be served.

Ms. Strachan says the government should direct the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management, ODPEM, to provide immediate relief to the numerous communities severely impacted by recent heavy rainfall-induced floods across the island.

She’s highlighting reports of government officials touring specific areas, focusing solely on certain constituencies.

She says this fails to address the national magnitude of this unprecedented flooding.

Strachan concluded by asserting that selective attention to particular constituencies would not meet the expectations of the Jamaican people during this critical time.
