The Opposition People’s National Party, PNP says it’s exploring ways of assisting the people of Cuba in light of a recent crisis facing the island nation.

In a statement, the PNP says its National Executive Council, NEC, will engage the Cuban Government to explore any practical ways in which it can assist the Cuban people.

The PNP NEC is also seeking to express its solidarity with and best wishes for the Cuban people.

It says it’s extending goodwill to the Cuban leaders, guided by the Cuban Communist Party.

The PNP notes media reports of severe food shortages and lack of access to basic household items and inadequate petrol reserves.

According to the PNP, Cuba’s economic challenges are compounded by an economic blockade against the country and made worse by the impacts of the COVID 19 pandemic.

It says it commends the Jamaican Parliament for its role in Jamaica’s consistent and principled position of rejecting the blockade against Cuban and calling for its end.

The PNP says it’s also important to reject what it calls cyber warfare, and misinformation being waged against the Cuban people and the government.
