The People’s National Party, PNP, is denouncing as misinformation and falsehoods, Prime Minister Andrew Holness’ recent comments about their opposition to pre-charge detention.
PNP general secretary, Dr. Dayton Campbell says at no point did the PNP reject its use.
In a statement Tuesday afternoon, Dr. Campbell says the proposal was put forward by the JCF during Joint Select Committee discussions for the anti-gang legislation.
While the PNP did not object, he says the opposition was sceptical about the feasibility of completing investigations within a reasonable period of time.
This was particularly concerning in a context where Jamaicans have languished in custody for over a year during States of Public Emergency.
Dr. Campbell says the prime minister is attempting to deflect from the failures of his administration through the use of misinformation.
