The Police Officers’ Association, POA, says it’s ‘noted with concern’ what it describes as the sudden announcement of the retirement of Police Commissioner, Owen Ellington.

However, it says having discussed the matter with Mr Ellington, it’s assured that it is his considered decision.

The POA is saluting Mr. Ellington for 34 years of what it describes as ‘sterling contribution’ to the Jamaica Constabulary Force, JCF.

Meantime, it says it awaits the appointment of a suitable replacement.

It says there are many qualified members of the JCF’s Officer Corps from which the Police Service Commission can find a replacement.

AND, the POA says it notes that Deputy Commissioner, Glenmore Hinds, has been appointed to act as Police Commissioner.

The POA says it’s confident DCP Hinds has the capacity to carry out this function effectively, and has pledged its full support.
