A number of persons have been arrested in a special operation now underway in the East Kingston Police division.

Head of the division, Superintendent Victor Hamilton says a firearm has also been seized.

The joint police/ military operations have been ongoing since Friday but intensified yesterday with heightened presence from the security forces.

Superintendent Hamilton says it’s their intention to restore calm to the division.

Two elderly women, one of whom was killed and the other injured recently has triggered the response from the security forces.

Seventy-five-year-old Ruthlyn Prendergast, a retiree of Homestead Road was killed.

Another elderly woman was found injured after the incident. It happened on Sunday.
