Police seized 12 guns and more than 100 assorted rounds of ammunition in a major all island crackdown between December 31 and January 1.

Almost a dozen people were taken into custody.

The first seizure happened about 8 in the morning on March Pen Road in Spanish Town, St Catherine.

Police seized one AK 47 and a magazine containing 5 cartridges.

Later, the St Catherine police detained two teenagers for another gun and ammo find, this time along Burke Road.

A Sig Sauer 9 millimetre pistol containing 25 rounds was found.

Nineteen year old Patrick Beckford and 18 year old Alrick Smith, both of Spanish Town, were taken into custody.

And in Kitson Town, St Catherine one Taurus 9 millimetre pistol and a magazine with 14 rounds was seized during a police operation.

Fifty-eight year haulage contractor, Marvin Allen, was taken into custody.

And even more weapons were seized as the evening progressed. In the St Andrew Central Police division, Matilda’s Corner police seized two firearms and 20 rounds of ammo at an open lot on Cedar Valley Road. 

A 21 year old man, Khazari Grant, otherwise called ‘tall man’ and 40 year old auto-body repairman, Donovan Brown otherwise called Sprayman were taken into custody.

Meanwhile, in Cambridge, St James a 9 millimetre pistol with two cartridges were seized while police were on patrol.

Jason Reckord of a Kingston address was taken into custody.
