The head of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Leo XIV, met with Haitian Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé on the weekend.
The meeting, at the Vatican, comes as Haiti continues to face escalating violence, political instability, and a deepening humanitarian crisis.
It also precedes the country’s long awaited general elections, currently set for August 30.
In a statement, the Holy See Press Office said the talks focused on the role of the Catholic Church in Haiti amid the difficulties being experienced there.
It also underscored the importance of sustained international support to help Haiti address its current difficulties.
