The Portland Police yesterday arrested seven men and seized 4-hundred pounds of compressed ganja, at Winifred Beach in Fairy Hill in the parish.
Head of the Portland Police, Superintendent, Wayne Cameron says an eighth man fled the scene and is now on the run.
Five of the men are from St Thomas, one from Montego Bay in St James and the other from Hellshire in St Catherine.
Two motor vehicles were also seized in the raid, one Toyota Hiace minibus and a Toyota Corolla motorcar, along with food items and clothing.
SSP Cameron says the men were apparently seeking to capitalize on the fact that the Area Two Police were having their annual Sports Day at the Folly Oval in Port Antonio.
He says they were counting on a low police presence on the roads, as they attempted to transport the drug.
