Guyanese President Dr. Irfaan Ali has been forced to defend Guyana’s emergence as a leading producer of oil and gas, amid criticism that the country is a major contributor to global warming.

Dr. Ali was forced on the backfoot during a recent interview on BBC’s Hard Talk with regular host, Stephen Sackur.

Dr. Ali says Guyana’s extensive forest allows it to absorb huge amounts of the carbon emissions associated with the oil extraction process.
