The Opposition Spokesman on National Security, Derrick Smith says the performance of portfolio Minister, Peter Bunting has been poor.

This as Minister Bunting is set to make a highly anticipated address to the House of Representatives regarding an increase in murders.

Mr. Smith says the Minister has failed to demonstrate an adequate grasp of his portfolio.

Minister Bunting is to address parliament some time after 2:30pm this afternoon.

The Security Minister will walk into Gordon House as a man despised by many labourites, following his stinging attack on Sunday regarding the JLP’s response to the spike in murders.

Addressing a media briefing yesterday, Opposition Spokesman on National Security Derrick Smith said Peter Bunting is mediocre.

But he says will not call for Bunting to be fired, because that’s the surest way that Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller will keep the security boss in the Cabinet.

Mr. Smith says laws initiated by Bunting to target lotto scam activity and gangs have not borne fruit.

The Opposition Spokesman says Bunting has adopted an offensive posture towards the labour party.

But he says he remains committed to assisting the PNP-administration to tackle violent crime.

Mr. Smith is also calling for an assessment of how the money allocated to Minister Bunting’s much vaunted Unite for Change Initiative, has been spent.
