The Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica, PSOJ, says the new partnership between Sandals Resorts International and Royal Caribbean Group is proof that Jamaican companies can compete on the world stage.
The PSOJ is congratulating both companies on what it calls a landmark deal for the Jamaican and wider Caribbean business communities.
The proposed transaction is expected to close in early 2027, subject to the relevant approvals and customary closing conditions.
The PSOJ, in a statement on Thursday, says it should support the continued expansion of the Sandals and Beaches brands and broaden their international reach.
PSOJ President, Patrick Hylton, says the deal is an important Jamaican success story.
He says the task now is to replicate that success in other industries.
The organisation is paying tribute to the late Gordon ‘Butch’ Stewart, who founded Sandals in Montego Bay more than four decades ago and is a former PSOJ president.
It is also commending Executive Chairman, Adam Stewart, for building on his father’s legacy.
The private sector group is using the moment to call for an enabling policy environment for business, pointing to economic stability, competitive taxation, efficient regulation, modern infrastructure, workforce development and better access to financing.
It is urging Jamaican businesses of all sizes to pursue expansion, strategic partnerships and new export markets.
