President of the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica, Keith Duncan, says Jamaica needs to invest more in early childhood and primary education as a crime prevention strategy.

Mr. Duncan made the statement while addressing the recent Westmoreland Chamber of Commerce annual dinner in Savanna-la-Mar.

He made reference to the Orlando Patterson Report on Jamaica’s education system which he says highlighted the need for early childhood funding.

The PSOJ president notes that without a strong foundation, children will lose interest in education and migrate into gangs. He says the recommendations of the Educational Transformation Oversight Committee needs to be acted on with urgency.
