A cause for alarm, that was the sentiment echoed by Opposition Spokesperson on Health and Wellness, Dr Morais Guy, on Jamaica recording its second-highest COVID-19 positive case numbers to date.

Last Saturday, the country recorded 458 COVID-19 positive cases.

Speaking with Nationwide News yesterday, Dr Guy says the cause for concern stems from the actions of both Jamaican citizens and the Government.

Dr Guy says management protocols need to be revised as a further step to curbing the spike in coronavirus cases.

Dr Guy also noted that legislative action needs to be taken by the Government to ensure proper adherence to the COVID-19 protocols.

On Tuesday, February 16, the country recorded 468 confirmed cases, to date the highest single-day figure since the start of the pandemic.

Meanwhile Dr Guy, says widespread movements of persons have caused various parishes to see an increase in COVID-19 positive cases.

Dr Guy says Portland has been able to record consistently low numbers when compared to other parishes due to its distance from the bustle of the metropolitan areas.

But Dr Guy says parishes which regularly showed lower case counts are now on the rise due to community spread.

He says greater care must be taken in order to stop the spread of the virus.
