Repair work at some institutions damaged by Hurricane Melissa could extend into several months. That’s according to Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Senator Marlon Morgan.
He was speaking on Nationwide’s The Week That Was on Sunday.
Senator Morgan’s comments follow the start of repair work at Burnt Savannah primary school in St Elizabeth on Friday. Work began almost 10 months after Hurricane Melissa devastated the institution.
When Nationwide visited the school last Thursday, our reporter saw roofless buildings, zinc strewn across the compound and several pieces of board with nails protruding.
One of the construction workers admitted that a delay in the provision of materials was behind the late start of the repairs to the institution.
Senator Morgan agrees that the supply chain is under pressure.
Meanwhile, Senator Morgan says work has to be done in phases across some schools.
