President of the Jamaica Football Federation, JFF, Michael Ricketts, is optimistic that Jamaica will benefit from one of the high-profile tournament turfs reserved by FIFA during the 2026 World Cup Finals.
FIFA had set aside a number of the tournament turfs to ensure a speedy replacement in the event any of the playing surfaces at host venues fell into disrepair during the competition.
Ricketts says the JFF has made representations to FIFA for Jamaica to receive one of the turfs, and he is hopeful that the request will be successful.
Speaking to Nationwide Sports, Ricketts said he expects to receive confirmation on Jamaica’s request by Thursday.
He says, if approved, the donation would be used to upgrade the playing surface at Catherine Hall in Montego Bay, St James.
Ricketts believes securing the turf would be a significant boost for football development in Jamaica, particularly for facilities outside the capital.
