Member of Parliament for West St. Andrew, Anthony Hylton, is calling for the Riverton City dump located in his constituency to be converted into a modern landfill.

He made the call during his contribution to the State of the Constituency Debate in the House of Representatives yesterday.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness recently announced plans to decommission the dump as part of a larger waste management overhaul.

However, Mr. Hylton says Riverton can be a prime site for a proper waste-to-energy facility.

The West St. Andrew MP, also says the people of Riverton must also be the prime beneficiaries of any plans for the landfill.

Meanwhile, MP Anthony Hylton, says sections of the Sandy Gully are one storm away from catastrophe.

Mr. Hylton says the structure of the gully in the southern portion has deteriorated due to overgrowth and debris.

The MP was making his contribution to the State of the Constituency Debate in the House of Representatives yesterday.

Mr. Hylton says this represents a clear and present danger to near by communities.

The West St. Andrew MP, is calling for urgent action to defend lives and property.
