A retrograde step!

That’s how Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, Karl Samuda, is describing suggestions to separate the portfolios under his super Ministry.

The suggestion was made by local business leaders including President of the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce, JCC, Larry Watson on Nationwide News yesterday.

At a media conference at his New Kingston Office this afternoon, Minister Samuda demanded that Mr. Watson– who was in attendance– sit where they could both make eye contact.

In the course of his address, Mr. Samuda said separating the portfolios under the Ministry could compromise the likely success of the agriculture sector.

He says the combination of portfolios under his Ministry makes trade more efficient and faster.
